My Get Lean Green Smoothie
My endearment for smoothies is much like my fondness for soup. Both taste delicious, both come in a variety of textures and flavours and both, I quite enjoy. But truth be told, I much prefer to eat my calories rather than drink ’em. So when I’m prepping for a competition, it’s safe to assume I avoid soups and smoothies much like I avoid asparagus in the off-season.
Asparagus can disappear off the face of the Earth for all I care!! I’m bulking now so you can go to Hell you bland, boring, overpriced, fibrous, green devil!!!!!!
Huh? What? ANYWAY… Since I don’t plan to compete again until next spring or summer and I’m able to consume more daily calories, my off-season meal plan does include a green smoothie every morning.
Yes, I still follow a meal plan even in the off-season. And yes, I pretty much eat the same foods all year round, just more of them and a wider variety of fruits and veggies.
Here’s the recipe for a low-cal smoothie I’ve been drinking everyday. I love adding fresh herbs to it. Parsley is so good for digestion and a natural diuretic (just like **shudders** asparagus.) And mint is another great digestive tonic. Alkalizing, high fiber and high protein– it’s the perfect way to start the day! Hope you agree!
Sam Shorkey’s Get Lean Green Smoothie
Ingredients:
2 handfuls of spinach
1 small handful fresh parsley
1 small handful (2- 3 sprigs) fresh mint leaves
1/4 tsp. fresh ginger
3 Tbsp. lemon juice (or juice of one lemon)
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 scoops Jacked on the Beanstalk vanilla protein powder
2 cups water
Method:
It’s a smoothie… You know the drill! Combine all ingredients in blender and BLEND! Pour into a tall glass then stare at your abs in the mirror and/or flex your biceps whilst drinking it. We all do this… Right?
