Podcast #50: How to Sleep Your Way to Better Health and a Fitter Body

Podcast #50: How to Sleep Your Way to Better Health and a Fitter Body

It's no surprise that we all need sleep in order to survive let alone function at our most "optimal" level.  And let's not forget that (most importantly) our muscles repair and rebuild themselves while we're sleeping!  That means we simply cannot get JACKED ON THE BEANSTALK without sufficient sleep no matter how hard we diet or train.

I think it's safe to say that none of us can deny how much better we feel and function after a good night's sleep.  So it's pretty obvious that sleep plays a hugely important role in not only our physical health and longevity but our emotional well-being too.

Sadly though, the never-ending stresses and distractions of our modern-day lives and go-go-go, non-stop lifestyles sure do make it quite difficult at times for us to get a solid night's sleep.

The good news is that we Shorkey sisters have you and your zzzzzz's covered on this week's podcast!

And as per a suggestion from one of our beloved listeners, we actually read (and experimented with) our animal "chronotypes" that we discovered according to "The Sleep Doctor" Dr. Michael Breus' "Power of When" book

Apparently I (Sam) am a bear and Sarah is a dolphin.

You can take the quiz for yourself and find out what your own animal chronotype is HERE.  Or if you don't have two minutes for the quiz, you can try to guess yours based on this handy, little infographic I'm so kindly sharing below...

I actually tried following my ideal "bear" schedule for a couple of days and I must admit that the days did seem longer and I was pretty frickin' productive during this time!  Unfortunately, waking up at 7am and going to bed at 11pm just didn't always work with my schedule (especially now at eight months pregnant.)

Nevertheless, I hope to get back at it again.  And I really do encourage everyone to give your own suggested chronotype schedule a shot AND read "The Power of When" book if you're struggling with productivity or sleep.

Even if it doesn't improve your sleep, you will at least learn the best time to eat, drink coffee, workout and even have sex!  More deets on the book HERE.

I feel as though I should mention (ironically enough) that it's currently 12:50am as I write these podcast notes.  Dr. Breus would not be pleased since I should have been in bed two hours ago.  And I am pretty damn tired, not gonna lie.  So I'll keep these "show notes" brief!  But definitely give this episode a listen if you're looking for tried and true, healthy ways to sleep more soundly.

From all-natural sleep aids like Performance Lab's Sleep formula and cool technologies like Swanwick blue light blocking glasses, we're covering it all!

And PS: we're also giving away BOTH of these tools to one lucky podcast listener who belongs to our Patreon program.  More deets on that HERE.
