My Week Sleeping with Paul McKenna
Anyone else fascinated with self-help books? How ’bout testing out random “fad” diets, detoxes or health methods you come across in your internet creeping?
I know I sure do.
And this off-season, I’m really focused on lifting like a savage beast as heavy as I can whilst taking a more experimental approach to my vegan nutrition. I really like seeing how my body responds to different foods & methods. I like trying the diets that other vegans follow. And I really love being able to relate and give an informed opinion on things when I talk to my clients.
Sometimes though, I just really like doing random, weird shit purely for my own comical entertainment.
This week, is one of ’em. And I’m stoked to share that the world’s number one hypnotherapist Paul McKenna is going to change my life in just seven days and for only $6.99!
Yes, Paul McKenna–world-renowned for his “I can Make You Rich/Confident/Thin/Sleep/Quit Smoking/IS There Anything He CAN’T DO?!” book series–and his soothing British voice are going to reprogram my mind to help me lose weight and change my relationship with food forever. It better be worth my $7, Paul! But I’m game. Let’s do it!
The “I Can Make You Thin” smartphone app is pretty straightforward. There’s a morning and evening check-in where you tell Paul whether you’re feeling motivated, indifferent or overwhelmed. He then gives you a little “pep talk” each morning with various techniques and methods to deal with things like cravings or poor body image.
There is also a “panic” button. Luckily I have a swimsuit photo shoot in a couple of days so that’s a little more motivating to eat healthy this week rather than Paul’s “relaxation hypnosis” that plays upon hitting the “panic button.” Nevertheless, I was quite relaxed afterwards. I was calm and confident.
I am calm and confident. Calm and confident. And I now sound Brit-ish…
The night time hypnosis is definitely my favourite part of the whole app. I’m one of those people who needs background noise in order to fall asleep. Someone once told me that this is a sign of people who can’t deal with their own psychotic thoughts…
Whatever it means, I like to fall asleep with my TV on. And I set it to shut off in an hour or so after I’ve “hit the hay.” Ugh, did I really just use that expression?
I must admit, I was a little apprehensive about sleeping with Paul McKenna. I didn’t think his baritone voice and background jingling sounds would be enough to make me fall asleep. But I gotta say, it totally worked! I was out cold almost every night after the relaxing 23 minutes in bed with Paul.
I’m eating consciously. I’m eating what I want to eat consciously. I eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m full. I’m consciously eating. Z-z-z-z-z-z-z…
In all seriousness though, I think Paul provides some good stuff in his app. He definitely gives helpful advice and unique techniques to help you look and feel your best. And for $7, why not at least get a good night’s sleep?
I also think Paul’s next book should be “I can Make You Stop Eating Animals.”
What do you guys think?
