Podcast #28: Food Cravings (and what they Reveal about our Emotions)
We all know (especially if you listened to our sugar addiction podcast) that sugar (in all its’ sweet, sweet glory) has been proven to be as addictive as cocaine.
But have you ever wondered WHY you have that brutal sweet tooth in the first place? Or WHY you can so easily polish off an entire bag of salt & vinegar chips every time you’re feeling stressed out?
It’s no surprise that the link between our food cravings and our emotions is HUGE! And being a vegan trainer/nutrition coach (and admitted sugar addict) myself, this is a hot topic I’ve always found interesting and so, have researched A LOT over the years.
Obviously when we crave something delicious, there is an element of just wanting to taste something delicious!
But often times, a craving is a signal from your body that you shouldn’t ignore. It could be a sign that it needs something (vitamin or mineral deficiency perhaps?) Or it’s possible that you’re low on sleep and that’s throwing your hormones out of whack.
Or it’s very likely (especially for us women unfortunately) that we’re trying to fill an emotional void i.e. we’re missing sweetness, comfort and connection in our lives. So we opt for the next best “quick fix” i.e. stuff our faces full of donuts, cakes and candies galore.
Hey, we’ve all been there!
And that’s why this week on the podcast, I’m sharing my very own personal struggles and experiences with brutal food cravings. And I’m discussing the emotional significance behind our need for all things sweet, salty, crunchy and smooth.
Interesting stuff, eh?
And of course, we can’t record a Jacked on the Beanstalk Podcast about cravings without sharing some of my best tips and vegan “snack hacks” to help us all stay on track and avoid giving into the temptation and gluttony!
